Peter advised that the Driver Reviver program is under threat of closing in this area and itself, needs to be revived. The operation was initially operated under
a combined service clubs banner but has fallen on hard times. Peter is exploring the possibility of it being operated this way again. Driver Reviver is operated under the management of the Road Safety Council and must meet certain standards for it to continue. Their primary concern is the condition of the van and its capacity to meet current food standards. The van operates at ‘The Tanks’ on the Whyalla-Pt. Augusta highway during long weekends and is a 24-hour service, encouraging people to take a break and
survive the drive. Over Easter, they serve 750-800 cups of coffee. It is early days yet, but it is hoped that with the cooperation of service clubs in Whyalla and Pt. Augusta that this valuable service can be continued.
