Guest Speaker - Jeff Venning - Competition Photography
Jeff was a Kimba resident until 9 years ago when he moved to the big smoke (Whyalla) and drives buses to eat, but his passion is photography and has been for 35 years. Jeff has always been a member of a club. He is the Country Club coordinator for 8 clubs overseeing 24 Judges. He is also the SA representative for the Australian Photographic Society. The competitions that Jeff enters in Australia and oversees are all open events. They usually involve around a $30 entrance fee, and last year Jeff entered 40 competitions. The competitions can be found on-line, but these days Jeff getís the invitations e-mailed to him direct. Only some colour enhancement is allowed, plus cropping, but no other photo-shopping. If there is any doubt, then the original raw data shot is called for and examined by experts.
The record keeping that Jeff needs to do to allow him to be awarded the honours in the field is impressive in itself.
Jeff likes a Nikon with 16 Mega-pixels and a wide lens for landscapes, but zooming and action shots need the long and expensive lens on a professional camera.
